Sant Asaram Bapu played Holi with devotees at Reshimbagh Nagpur

Sant Asaram Bapu played Holi with devotees at Reshimbagh Ground on Tuesday. The ground witnessed huge crowd gathered to celebrate the festival with Bapu as he sprinkled colours on them. Devotees and followers danced to music and enjoyed every bit of the occasion.

On the occasion, Asaram Bapu propagated the use of natural colours, as the artificial colours available in the markets are toxic and harm people in many ways. According to their researched fact sheet on Holi, the pastes contain very toxic chemicals that can have severe health effects. Black colour consists of Lead Oxide which causes renal failure. Green Colour is made-up of Copper Sulphate which causes allergic symptoms specially to eyes, puffiness and even temporary blindness. Silver colour contains Aluminum Bromide which causes cancer while blue colour consists of Prussian Blue which leads to Contact Dermatitis. Red colour is highly toxic as it contains Mercury Sulphite which is highly toxic and can cause skin cancer. Therefore, people should avoid using artificial colours made from chemicals, Bapu said. For the special Holi celebrations, in presence of Asaram Bapu, a special colour was made with the help of Palash and Marigold flowers. The flowers were dipped in water a day before. They were boiled in the morning after adding a few drops of cooking oil. Natural colours specially prepared for Bapu were used by him. Prior to Holi, Asaram Bapu delivered a discourse. He narrated a story of Bhakta Pralhad and Holika who specially came to burn Pralhad. Holi is a festival, which takes a devotee on the path of spirituality, Bapu said. Bapu also advised his followers to recite name of God on Holi festival. This year Holi is coming on February 28. Followers should sit near God and recite the hymns from Vedas or Guru Mantra. Followers should observe fast, keep quiet and they should take milk or fruits instead of food, he said. Bapu also highlighted the importance of Mantra Deeksha. A person who receives Mantra Deeksha from his guru could get 33 types of spiritual benefits while infinite benefits in material life. Holi colours are important to get strength and improve immunity, he said. In his discourse, Bapu talked on Ayurvedic remedies. Live naturally with the nature, he said. Bapu spoke on various natural remedies for hypertension, heart problems, renal failure, joint pain, diabetes, skin problems, eye problems, gynaecological problems and many diseases which could be cured by natural remedies, he added.

Gajanan Maharaj casts a spell on second day of Kalidas Mahotsav

The mega play was presented under the aegis of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, District Administration of Nagpur, Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Nagpur Improvement Trust. The play was presented by Sanskar Multiservices, Nagpur and sponsored by Sumantkumar Gadekar Memorial Pratishthan. Over 150 artists performed in the mega drama which had the packed Nehru Maidan. Film Actor Mukund Vasule performed the stellar role of Gajanan Maharaj with aplomb. The play revolved around the life of Gajanan Maharaj revealing some of the miracles performed by him that has generated a mass following all over India. The play was directed by Dr Naresh Gadekar and presented by Asawari Tidke of Sanskar Multiservices Nagpur. The play had some beautifully choreographed dances that were performed by the young artists in a truly professional manner. The play had tremendous devotional impact due to its superbly crafted stage sets, lighting arrangement, costumes and recorded dialogues and music. The dialogues and lyrics were written by Sant Kavi Chandrasek har Varadhpande, conceptualised by Anagha Vekhande. Music was provided by Girish Varadhpande, while anchor was Sunil Bonde. Prakash Patrikar was Joint Director while Ummesh Giripunje and Tarkeshwar Khadge choreographed the dances. Special effects were provided by Rakesh Khade. Atul Shebe was Assistant Director and sets were designed by Sunil Umdapure and Nana Misal. Shubhangi Rayulu compered the programme. The play was inaugurated by District Collector Pravin Darade. MLA Ashish Jaiswal was also prominently present. With thousands thronging the venue on both the days of the mahotsav, the MTDC needs to do some serious thinking to consider hosting the mahotsav for atleast three days in Ramtek in future. A visit to the Kalidas memorial however, left one with a feeling of dejection and anger as the memorial completely lacks proper care and maintenance. The false ceiling inside the memorial has provided ideal nesting site to a colony of birds known as the ‘Swifts’ while the sand stone used, shows sign of decay and neglect. The paintings have labels put on them which have become corroded and are just not legible. Some merge lighting has been made on the dome of the memorial. No detailed information, displayed on a board or a marble plaque is visible anywhere. Pop music blares from the loud speakers here instead of bhajans or religious hymns. What sort of tourism development MTDC authorities aim to do with such a shabby display is a big question.

As Nagpur shapes-up for post-MIHAN push-up, will Railways rise to challenge

The Railway Budget suspense has heightened and people of Vidarbha and Nagpur, the gateway to Central India, in particular are expecting a fair deal from Railway Minister Mamta Banerjee. The first and foremost demand is to take-up proposal for starting inter-city express ex-Nagpur, as the city shapes-up for post-MIHAN push-up. Since the number of travellers in all four directions from Nagpur, upto 300 km radius has increased coupled with rapid urbanisation, the faster local services would help in avoiding unnecessary development pressure on Nagpur.
